Leykam Live Erlangen 1998
Roman Leykam (born 22 August 1961 in Nuremberg, Germany) is a German guitarist, composer and producer.

His idiosyncratic style, combining structure and improvisation, lies in the realm of ambient, experimental and industrial music. He simultaneously combines electric guitar, effects and electronic sound sources controlled by electric guitar (guitar-controlled synthesizer).

Works by and featuring Leykam have been released on CD since 1990. He designs most of the CDs (Digi-Pak, Jewel Case) himself using photographs and images (artwork). Through photography, artistic processing and the resulting high-quality CD artwork, he creates a visual connection to the music.

Life and work

Leykam has released several solo albums since 2008 and has worked with Frank Mark, Martin Birke, Aaron Kinney, Daniel Panasenko, Chuck Ehlis, Frank Meyer and Robin Schaller since 1989. Since 1990, 46 albums by and featuring Leykam have been released. Leykam works and composes mainly in his own recording studio. Mixing, mastering and artwork design (CD, booklet, digipak, inlay) are produced in the studios of Frank Meyer and Frank Mark (pre-master).

Instruments and working methods

Leykam mostly uses a Steinberger electric guitar. The original sound of the electric guitar is simultaneously combined with controlled effects and synthesizers. The resulting soundscapes are usually used without post-processing. Leykam also works in this way when collaborating with other musicians. Either the guitar is pre-recorded and musicians play tracks to accompany it (as on the album "Experience Space"), or Leykam plays the guitar to accompany the pre-recorded tracks (as on the albums "Boundless" and "HEX").
